My name is Juaquin Hawkins also known as Coach Hawk. Currently, I am the founder and director of Hawk Hoops and director of basketball operations for AVAC UNITED. Our youth program is for boys and girls ages 8-17. We teach basketball during the week with our team practices and travel to play in competitive tournaments locally and at times nationally on the weekends, preparing student athletes for highschool, college and their life endeavors. With our affiliated AVAC UNITED, we also host youth tournaments, clinics and camps and more.

From Juaquin….
In 2008 at 34 years old while playing professional basketball, I unfortunately suffered a stroke that not only altered my career but completely change the life of my family and I. Being diagnosed with a stroke,(having bleeding in the brain), affected me mentally, emotionally, physically as well in so many other ways. My wife, 3 daughters and I also eventually were homeless trying to deal with our new life journey. At that time my memory was affected considerably so I began to write things down as notes just in hopes that I would not forget important events, due to the affects of the stroke. A few years later I had over 400 pages of notes and with my wife suggestion I decided to compile all the notes I had together to make into a book. My life story, “Stroke of Grace” was established.
What is THE STROKE OF GRACE about;
This manuscript is about grace, courage, determination and the will to adapt to different situations in life. Follow the beginning of my life journey being raised in Lynwood/Compton California, to my college days at Long Beach State University, to my 14 year professional basketball career which includes, playing in 6 different countries (Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, Australia, China and in the U.S.A. respectfully. Read about one of the highlights of my life making the NBA as a 29 year old rookie with the Houston Rockets! Playing against NBA legends such as Allan Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, Paul Pierce, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan was the ultimate dream that came true. With marriage and the birth of my first daughter life was great! Then, the untimely moments of having devastating stroke, no longer being able to play the sport I love which eventually affected the lives of my family and I more than I can ever imagine. THE MISSION:
Through this book the mission is to create even more stroke awareness through my experience and testimony. Also to inspire and motivate others who maybe in need to be uplifted as they go through their own life obstacles. I pray this manuscript will provide a seed of hope!!
